Above is a Turkish news photo I include completely without any sort of context. Out of curiosity, how do readers interpret something like this? An illustration of Muslim womens' docility? An image of Muslim women remaining devout and yet claiming a place in the public sphere? That it's annoying that people behave like religious sheep in the 21st century? That it's a wonderful picture of human cultural diversity? ...?

"How many brainwashed and coerced women over there, poor people" is my impresion really.
Its impossible to say much of anything about the photo without knowing the context. Making judgements based on appearances is one of the reasons that prejudice still flourishes in the world. Sometimes a photo is only worth the paper its printed on.
It looks like women at a political rally/speech. They look engaged, there are many smiles.
Maybe it is a school assembly at an all girls school? I can't really tell the age of the crowd.
Would it make a difference to your perception if they weren't wearing the head scarf/hijab?
